 “Messengers of Christmas”

     joe
I can’t believe that this is the last newsletter article for 2011!  Days turn into weeks, weeks into months, and months into a year & pretty soon another year has passed.  It seems like just the other day we were quoting Psalm 19:14-”May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing in your sight, O Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer”- for the first time as our scripture verse of the year.  Now it is almost time to seek God’s direction for the scripture of the year for 2012.
Before we come to that time however, we have a lot of 2011 left-perhaps the busiest most jam packed two months of the year with the holidays of Thanksgiving and Christmas included.  For most of us this season comes with travel, familoy red candles& church activities, shopping & gift giving, cleaning, decorating, cooking, & of course, eating!
As we enter this special season of the year, let’s remember the reasons for season.  Thanksgiving is a uniquely American holiday in which we give thanks for our country, freedom, and especially the bounteous provisions of Almighty God.  During November, take time out to truly count God’s blessings in your life and find ways to turn your generosity into specific acts of caring and service to others.  Don’t forget to bring friends and family to our annual Church Thanksgiving Dinner on Sunday evening, Novemer 20, at 5 p.m.  Thanksgiving is an imortant opportunity to invite internationals to experience a unique aspect of American culture.
This yer our theme for December and the Christmas season will be “Messengers of Christmas”.  We have some special services, activities, and ministries that we are planning so look for important information in this newsletter as well as our web site and the weekly church bulletin so you can stay updated on what is happening.  As we celebrate CHRIST, the reason for the Christmas season, let me encourage you to be a messenger of the Good News to someone this holiday season.
If Christ is the reason for the season, then we are the messengers of the reason-God’s messengers to bring the light of hope in Christ to a lost and needy world!
HAPPY THANKSGIVING & MERRY CHRISTMAS!     Joe

Connection Pastor’s Word

by Connection Pastor, Ryan Rhodes

Ryan Rhodes, Connection Pastor

Dear church family,

I am excited about the opportunity that the church has to participate in Operation Christmas Child. This is a great ministry to sOperation Christmas Childhare the love of Christ with the world. Operation Christmas Child sends shoeboxes full of toys, hygiene items, and school supplies to needy children all over the world. When a child receives the box, his/her face just lights up with joy. The child is then presented with the Good News of Jesus Christ.
Our College and Young Adult Ministry, 801, is packing and organizing the boxes this year. Just bring donations of toys, hygiene items, school supplies, shoeboxes and wrapping paper to the church and we will take it from there. Our goal is to pack 50 shoeboxes. Let’s show the love of Christ with this great opportunity.  If you have any questions or concerns please let me know.    Thanks, Connection Pastor, Ryan Rhodes

Items for Operation Christmas Child need to be received by Wednesday, November 16. Also if you want to make a monetary donation, that is helpful since OCC asks donating organizations to donate $7 per box to help with shipping, you can make a check to HPBC and designated for “OCC.”

A Word From The Hale’s

Dear HPBC family,

Thanks for the Bibles you donated for Oklahoma inmates.  We received almost 75 new and ‘well-studied’ Bibles to distribute to those who really need God’s word.  Ken and I are definitely excited and blessed to be a part of such a loving church family especially with my mom, Betty Glenn.

Thank for your generosity, Lesa Hale

Dear HPBC family,

God has blessed us with a church home that is a perfect place for us.  Honestly, Lesa and I both have spent many years on the other side of faith.  I spent most of my years as a practicing agnostic alcoholic/addict.  Through Alcoholics Anonymous I found God again whom I can trust and understand and that has led me to your door.  We have found that the smaller church format allows us to feel loved and blessed by all the members.

Another blessing is the time we spend with Betty.  She is a wonderfully faithful person that we both can aspire to grow up to be.

Blessings, Ken
